FAQ
What kind of web content can Iterasi archive?
Iterasi is the only archiving engine with TrueArchive™ technology, which allows us to create valid archives of very complex pages (e.g., pages with complex technologies like AJAX, Javascript, Flash and more).
Iterasi is the only tool that allows you to capture web content from 5 different sources:
- Entire Web Sites: Archives an entire web site or any branch within a web site regularly or on demand.
- Individual Pages: Archives a single web page once or on a regular schedule.
- RSS Feeds: Archives the contents of any RSS feed (e.g., blog feeds, Twitter feeds, etc.)
- Topics: Monitors social media and news for keywords and archives the results.
- Page Notary Tool: Archives any web page you browse with the click of a button, even password protected pages, or pages behind a firewall.
Iterasi is also capable of archiving documents that archived pages link to like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ZIP and PDF.
What about Flash content and videos?
Yes we do archive Flash content. Flash archiving is an option and can be turned on and off based on the customer’s needs.
Yes we can archive videos. More often than not, video is simply a Flash element. Other times video contains complex cross-domain streaming. Iterasi can archive video in both scenarios. This functionality can also be turned on or off depending on the needs of the customer.
Is Iterasi a hosted service or something I need to install inside my infrastructure?
Iterasi is a web-based service and is fully hosted online. However, it is possible to build out a custom appliance to run the IterasiArchives application from inside your infrastructure. If you are interested in this kind of custom appliance please contact us through the form on the contact page.
What does my IT department need to setup to use Iterasi?
Because Iterasi is a fully hosted, web-based service, there is no special setup required from your IT department. This is an exceptional benefit to Iterasi in comparison to initiating server backups, etc.
Is IterasiArchives an “out of the box” product, or does it require custom setup?
Both. For many web sites, IterasiArchives works perfectly out of the box; simply “set it and forget it.” But for complex web sites there may be custom setup required. For example, if your corporate web site serves pages from www.company.com, publicrelations.company.com, and www1.company.com, custom configuration may be required to allow our site capture module to span across these domains.
Either way, you can expect Iterasi’s customer support to help you find out what’s right for your organization.
How much does it cost?
Because the needs of our clients vary so much from one customer to the next, we need to evaluate the sites and pages you want to archive, and understand your archiving goals before we can discuss pricing. If you’d like a quote please contact us through the form on the contact page.
Are the web pages that I archive with IterasiArchives private?
By default all archived pages coming from our web page, web site, and Persistent Search modules are set to private. You have control over whether or not you want your archived pages to be private or public. You can always change your privacy settings on a per-archive basis.
How is IterasiArchives different from backing up my web site?
Many web sites today are controlled by different technologies, protocols and databases. Often times content is served from multiple domains and databases. In order to reproduce an historical web page or web site from a specific date you would need to keep backup versions not only of web page files but also of the necessary technologies and protocols. Then you would have to keep an entirely separate backed up version of your database(s) to connect the pieces again. This is a costly, painful, and, often times, impossible undertaking.
What’s more, it’s unlikely that you will have the ability to search your backup.
With IterasiArchives on the other hand, you’ll have high fidelity records and backups of your web pages and web sites that don’t require any of this puzzle piecing, maintenance of legacy technology, or additional IT resources. Each web page archived with Iterasi is an independently saved digital carbon copy of the original page. Also, with Iterasi, you can search across your entire database of archived pages, and filter results by date, folder, tag, etc.
How is Iterasi different than other web archiving services?
There are many reasons why Iterasi is unique in the field of web archiving. Here are a few:
- Iterasi is the only company who uses the TrueArchive™ process on all of our archived pages.
- We offer the most capture sources for acquiring web content to be archived (Entire web sites, Individual Pages, RSS Feeds, Topical Capture, Page Notary Tool).
- Iterasi’s browser based console is superior to other user interfaces, for a more productive workflow.
- Iterasi’s Page Notary Tool is the only browser-based archiving tool.
- Iterasi provides collaboration tools like reports, tags, folders, and export capabilities to work with teams, clients, and legal groups.
